8. Medical Menopause, the abruptness of it!

Medical menopause can also be referred to as surgical menopause. It is menopause that is caused abruptly. Examples are:

• Bilateral oophorectomy (ovaries are surgically removed)

• Salpingo-oophorectomy (ovaries & fallopian tubes are removed)

• Hysterectomy (removal of the uterus), and does not cause abrupt menopause if the ovaries are left intact.
